Earthquake Leaves Italian Town In Ruins

Central Italy has been hit by a devastating earthquake, causing an entire town to turn to rubble. It is believed that at least 11 people have been killed and many more injured.

A distressed local summed up the scale of the devastation perfectly: “Our town isn’t here anymore.”

The magnitude 6 quake struck the once quaint town of Amatrice the hardest, but surrounding areas such as Accumoli near Rieti and the Italian capital, Rome, were also effected.

The disaster took place at 3.36am and within minutes buildings were in ruins. Take a look at the horrific aftermath of this earthquake in the gallery below.

Rubble And Ruins
